It started with a sucker...

Today one of my mom's cousin's daughters, (does that make us second cousins?) came to my work. She was nice enough to bring me one of those delicious See's candies suckers. They are so creamy and wonderful. It was worth noting because she was with her mom and her mom looks like a feminine, very beautiful version of my grandpa, who died a few years ago. And my grandpa loved See's candy and often gave us those same suckers.

So I started thinking about that and what a nice memory of him it is and how some of my younger siblings don't know that about him because they were too young when he died. (run-on sentence much?) Anyway, I was thinking how sad it is they missed out on that and then it occurred to me, what did I miss out on, that I'm not even aware of?

And I decided to try to not miss out on anything else with the family and friends that I still have and love.

i love these kinds of traditions (you know, ones that involve food).

maybe you should pass on the tradition for your grandfather....

Such a sweet memory. I agree with Rychelle, you should pass on this tradition to your kids....keep it alive!

Yes...and what did he miss out on and what did his Grandpa miss out on and his Grandpa, and his Grandpa? It kinda makes you think "who was the first Grandpa? " Did he miss out on everything or did he miss out on nothing having no Grandpa to miss out on?
It's hurting my brain.

I remember those suckers. But I remember the chick o sticks and hershey kisses as well. He was a candy man. Does this mean you are going to want to spend more time with me? :) ha ha

You are lucky. My family never brings me candy at work. Oh wait--I should appreciate them...I love my family! Thanks for the nice thought.

I feel bad that our kids will never know my grandparents (or Que's) but at least we live pretty close to our parents!

I'm glad you have such a good memory of your grandfather! Mostly what I have from mine are insults and second-hand smoke. It helps me to appreciate my grandparents-in-law all the more!
