The secret

Yesterday I was at my kids elementary school when the principal made his daily announcements. Part of it included a quote; I wasn't listening well enough to remember who said it.

"The secret joy of work is excellence."

I really do believe that, in fact most the time, it's the ONLY joy in work.

That is a great quote. I need to remember it. Most of the time I don't do my best and so I don't find joy in what I do.

But I am a firm believer that work done incorrectly still blesses your family (i.e., even if you don't do an excellent job, any good you do is still good).

This keeps me from being too depressed, unlike how I feel when I read the following phrase: "Any job worth doing is worth doing well." Boy, that's depressing. I look at that and think, Well, then why even try?

I thought the secret joy of work was pawning it off on other people...

As for Ace of Base: can you think of a better tape to listen to on your walkman in 1993 while you rollerblade around the driveway? It was simply the best option for me and I stand behind my choice.
